Description of the Related Art As the world becomes increasingly dependent on the speed and efficiency of the postal system, improvements in postal service are constantly being sought. One particular area of focus is the improvement of mailcarrier vehicles or trucks. Modern mailcarrier vehicles or trucks are almost totally automated, except for the loading and unloading of mail or package. However, the efficient loading and unloading of the vehicles is essential to maximize the efficiency of the delivery process and minimize the number of truck driver hours needed to deliver a mailpiece. To maximize the efficiency of mailcarrier vehicles or trucks, the loading and unloading of the vehicle should be as fast and efficient as possible. For example, many large delivery companies, such as Federal Express® and the United States Postal Service®, employ semi-automatic feeders and loaders, such as those disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 5,085,619 and U.S. Pat. No. 4,779,756 to the present inventor. However, semi-automatic feeders and loaders are relatively expensive and require a significant capital investment by the company, if they are to be integrated into a new facility. Alternatively, more simple automatic systems are available, such as that disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 5,857,623 to the present inventor, but these systems require significant modifications of the vehicle itself to be installed. Also, such systems are expensive and are usually installed only at a single location within a single facility. Many companies also use unloading stations for the receipt of the mail from the delivery vehicle and the subsequent delivery of the mail. These unloading stations include an opening for receiving the delivery truck, a bin or chute for sorting and staging the mail and a conveyor for conveying the mail to the next location.
